Students on the Rise


The Miss Greater Plaistow Scholarship Program was held January 11 at the Sanborn Regional High School. This program is a local preliminary for the Miss New Hampshire Scholarship Program which will be held May 1, 2 and 3 at the Stockbridge Theater at Pinkerton Academy in Derry. Holly Blanchard, 22, of Derry won the title of Miss Greater Plaistow. She is a 2010 graduate of Pinkerton Academy and is currently a senior studying Communication Science at the University of Connecticut. Holly is a featured twirler with the UCONN Marching Band. Local contestants included first runner up, Sarah Tubbs of Sandown and Katie Green of Plaistow.

Phillips Exeter Academy announces the following local students have earned academic honors for the Fall 2013 semester: Alexander Greaney, grade 12, of Kingston; parents Heidi and Kevin Greaney, earned High Honors; Kevin Ma, grade 12, of Brentwood; parents Dr. Hongbao Ma and Ms. Juan Sun, earned High Honors; Katy Kinnon, grade 12, of Newton; parents Ange and Peter Kinnon, earned Honors; Michaela E. Streep, grade 10, of Exeter; parents Mr. Thomas M. Streep earned Honors; Hannah E. Keane, grade 12, of Fremont; parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. Keane, earned Honors; Sagemarie W. George, grade 12, of Raymond; parents Ms. Karen L. Casas-George, earned Honors; and Marc L. Steele, grade 12, of Danville; parents Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Steele, earned High Honors.

The University of Massachusetts Lowell has announced the following local students have been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2013 semester: Lauren Caruso of Danville, majoring in nursing; Samuel Champey of Danville, majoring in nursing; Jeremy Cox of Sandown, majoring in information technology; Alexandria Delaney of Danville, majoring in nursing; Daniel Ferreira of Sandown, majoring in business administration; Michael Gager of Exeter, majoring in mechanical engineering; and Joshua Stone of Sandown, majoring in business administration.

Austin Prep is pleased to announce the following local students have earned academic achievements for the Fall semester: Maura Smith of Atkinson has achieved Honors with Distinction and Mackenzie Driscoll of South Hampton earned Honors.

Endicott College is pleased to announce the following local students named to the Dean’s List students for the Fall 2013 semester: Shannon Elaine Maguire, a Senior majoring in English, she is the daughter of Mark and Audrey Maguire of Danville; and Victoria Lee O’Meara, a Sophomore majoring in Liberal Studies/Education, she is the daughter of Stephen and Sandra O’Meara of Plaistow.

  •  Successful Conservation Collaboration

    On June 17, the sophomore class of Sanborn Regional High School made a field trip to the Old Frye Town Forest, one of Kingston's five town forests, to assist the Kingston Conservation Commission in the removal of invasive plants from the area near the trailhead, notably, an extensive and aggressive patch of Japanese knotweed. This project was the culmination of the school's third year of intra-curricular collaboration with the Commission to address local environmental issues, and to make conservation an area of study and research. Congratulations from the Commission to the teachers and students for a job well done!

  • Miss Fremont Crowned

    Amanda Arsenault, 17, pictured above, was crowned Miss Fremont during the towns’ 250th celebration. Formerly known as “Olde Poplin”, many events took place at varied locations in town. Amanda is the daughter of Katherine and Steven Arsenault.

    The family of Sanborn Regional High School graduate, Haley Malloy, center, turned out in force to witness the 2014 graduation commencement ceremonies held in the school gymnasium.   • Students Donate to Exeter Hospital ER

    Kindergarten students from Kensington Elementary School recently made a donation to Exeter Hospital with funds raised during a unit to learn about the importance of community. The children chose to donate the money for teddy bears to be given to children who come into the Emergency Department (ED). Teacher Barbara Greenwood also presented the ED with a large book of drawings and handwritten notes from the children.
