4-H Horse Project

---- — BRENTWOOD - The hard work 4-H members invested in their horse projects through participation in Horse Circuit Shows was honored at a year-end banquet hosted by the Rockingham County 4-H Leaders Association. The banquet was held in the Hilton Auditorium at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood.

4-H members ages 8-18 work with their horses to become a team improve with each show through the season as well as from year to year. Classes include Showmanship, Equitation, Pleasure, Trail, Riding Pattern, Hunter Under Saddle, Barrels, and a Knowledge Quiz. The members earn points for placement at each show as well as earning trophies and ribbons for their efforts.

The participants winning top honors were: Zachary Gleason, Danville, High Point Walk/ Trot English or Western Rider; Jackie Johnson, Brentwood, High point Junior Hunt Seat Rider; Cody Gleason, Danville, High Point Junior Western Rider; Kelsey Escobar, Kingston, High Point Senior Rider Western Rider (fourth year in a row); Maggie Kenter, Kingston, High Point Senior Hunt Seat Rider; Elizabeth Gaffney, Dracut Mass., Top Pleasure Western Rider; Rosalie Toupin, Dracut, Mass., Top Junior for Showmanship and Pleasure; Maggie Kenter and Karissa Martin, Epping, shared the high overall Knowledge Quiz member award; Kelsey Escobar, Top overall Reserve High Point for all seats; Maggie Kenter, Top overall High Point for all Seats.

Additional honors given out at the banquet include the Good Sportsmanship Award, presented to Cody Gleason for displaying the best example of sportsmanship throughout the year. The Leaders Choice Award, to honor a non-rider displaying leadership, cooperation, sportsmanship and helpfulness throughout the year, voted on by the Leaders Association went to Jestina Gleason, Danville.

The Bear Meadow Farm, Karen Morton Memorial trophy for club with the highest active membership participating in 4-H sponsored activities went to the Derry True Blue Trotters.

The association wished members (and their horses) who are finishing participation with the 4-H Youth Development Program well in their future plans. The association said goodbye to Sarah Cote of Andover, Mass., Hannah Proulx of Raymond and Kelsey Escobar.
