Students on the Rise: January 16, 2014

In February 2014, Colleen Denison from Danville is volunteering on the IVHQ Uganda Orphanage volunteer program for sixteen weeks. IVHQ is an international volunteer organization working in twenty-two countries that sends over 6000 volunteers abroad annually. Established in 2007, the organization has sent over 25,000 volunteers abroad and work with hundreds of different projects through Africa, Asia and Latin America. Colleen will spend sixteen weeks on the Uganda orphanage program working alongside other volunteers from all over the world.

This fall, Colby-Sawyer College welcomed approximately 430 first-year students to its 2017 graduating class, including: Kristina Cortes of Sandown, Kimberly Faust of Raymond, Madison Hamilton of Exeter, Hannah LaRoche of Kensington, Daniel O’Keefe of Brentwood, Sarah Paullis of Newton, Bradford Rose of Exeter, Elisabeth Seymour of Brentwood, Shelby Smith of Sandown, Molly Statezni of Newton, Kyle Sullivan of Exeter. Colby-Sawyer is pleased to announce the following local students have been named to the Dean’s List for academic achievement during the 2013 spring semester: Jessica Casey of Exeter, Rebecca Perley of Sandown, Anthony Riso of Raymond, and Ashlee Worsham of Raymond.

Tadhg Duffy, son of Vandy Duffy of Exeter, and Kevin Duffy of Brentwood, have enrolled for Fall Semester, 2013 admission at Rochester Institute of Technology. Tadhg is in the industrial design program in RIT’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences and is a 2013 graduate of Exeter High School. Tadhg has been awarded the Robinson Fund and John A. Anderson Memorial Scholarship.

Plymouth State University has announced the following local first year students who are attending this fall: Kacie Arthur of Kensington, Mariah Barnum of Kingston, Branden Bishop of Sandown, Brandon Carleton of Epping, Adam Corey of Danville, Nicole DeFranzo of Sandown, Tucker Finerty of Kensington, Jessica Fischer of Sandown, Alexander Frizzell of Exeter, Toni Gallant of East Kingston, Masha Lange of Danville, Michael Maguire of Danville, Hayleigh Mantini of Epping, Jacob Milbury of Kensington, Tucker Moss of Epping, Shawn Poor of Newton, Justin Rogers of Sandown, Kirsten Roman of Raymond, and Ryan Walker of Kingston.

  •  Successful Conservation Collaboration

    On June 17, the sophomore class of Sanborn Regional High School made a field trip to the Old Frye Town Forest, one of Kingston's five town forests, to assist the Kingston Conservation Commission in the removal of invasive plants from the area near the trailhead, notably, an extensive and aggressive patch of Japanese knotweed. This project was the culmination of the school's third year of intra-curricular collaboration with the Commission to address local environmental issues, and to make conservation an area of study and research. Congratulations from the Commission to the teachers and students for a job well done!

  • Sanborn Class of 2014

  • Miss Fremont Crowned

    Amanda Arsenault, 17, pictured above, was crowned Miss Fremont during the towns’ 250th celebration. Formerly known as “Olde Poplin”, many events took place at varied locations in town. Amanda is the daughter of Katherine and Steven Arsenault.

  • Students Donate to Exeter Hospital ER

    Kindergarten students from Kensington Elementary School recently made a donation to Exeter Hospital with funds raised during a unit to learn about the importance of community. The children chose to donate the money for teddy bears to be given to children who come into the Emergency Department (ED). Teacher Barbara Greenwood also presented the ED with a large book of drawings and handwritten notes from the children.
